RECLAIM - Wednesday 8 February   7pm to 10pm

A 'Bubble Monster' will unleashed at Dundee Science Centre's adults only night - Reclaim!

The Reclaim event, on Wednesday 8 February is absolutley free of charge and gives adults the chance to reclaim the Science Centre from younger visitors.

An ice show will involve several spectacular experiments using -196 degree liquid nitrogen to demonstrate the three states of matter. The science learning team will make crisp cans pop, bananas bash in nails and turn washing up liquid into a fearsome bubble monster.

Visitors will also get the chance to get down, get dirty and dig up a replica dinosaur skeleton at Dinodig, learn some curious facts and identify the species of dinosaur unearthed on the night!

With a bar and music, Reclaim runs from 7-10pm and allows visitors to enjoy Dundee Science Centre’s exhibitions, and a diverse range of other activities, in a new light.

This is proving to be very popular event based on the number of enquiries we've had already. No need to book, just turn up on the evening and enjoy yourselves - the more the merrier!

To find out more about Reclaim, contact Stuart Rogers at stuart.rogers@dundeesciencecentre.org.uk or phone 01382 228800.

Reclaim is a new way to enjoy the science centre. Unique and relaxed: this is the place to socialise, enjoy science, and reclaim the science centre from the kids. Over 18s only.

Dinodig is back!

Children get the chance to become mini palaeontologists and dig up our replica dinosaur skeleton at Dinodig. They will learn all about how dinosaurs became fossilised and what the different parts of the dinosaur’s skeleton were used for. The final challenge then is to identify the species of dinosaur that has just been uncovered....

The activity lasts for 30 minutes and is suitable for ages 3 and over. There is no need to book places and the workshop will be running at 11:00 am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm, with extra times at weekends, as demand dictates.

This is an exciting and fun activity suitable for parties and group visits - for more information or to arrange a booking, call 01382 868603.

Cafe Science Extra - Wednesday 8 February 6pm to 7pm (doors open at 5.30pm)

Feeding the world – appliance of science or reliance on nature? - Dr. Tim George - Cafe Science Extra

For the last 10,000 years humans have been growing crops for consumption and trade,
but only in the last 200 years have we industrialised fertiliser production to sustain this.
In just two centuries, we have all but used up our readily-available mineral resources and created a number of environmental problems.
Now, we need to improve the way in which crop nutrition is managed, I will demonstrate, in an interactive way, how different fertilisers (inorganic fertiliser, animal manure, green manure, human waste and urban waste) can be used and how technological interventions,
including plant breeding and engineering solutions, can be used to improve the use, and reduce the abuse, of our natural resources.

This is a free event and is open to all.
