Early Explorers

Early Explorers

In February 2010, we launched a really exciting learning programme for children aged 3-5 years.  Once a month, the centre is dedicated to our little scientists, who will have some fun taking part in learning activities that will include hands-on workshops, story-time and a science and art activities!

There will be two sessions on the day from 9.30am - 11am, and 1pm - 2.30pm.  Cost per child is £4 which includes a snack, with one adult free of charge per child (£7.25 thereafter). Price includes time to explore the exhibition, planned activities and a snack in Infusion coffee shop (where the grown-ups can also enjoy coffee and a cake).

Dundee Science Centre is inspected by HMIe. See our report on www.hmie.org.uk. Early Explorers contributes to Curriculum for Excellence, helping to develop confident, successful learners.

Advanced booking is essential and places are limited, so to avoid disappointment give us a call to reserve your place at one of our popular Early Explorer days. Please phone ASAP to secure your place on 01382 868609,or email rebecca.erskine@dundeesciencecentre.org.uk for more information.

2012 Schedule for Early Explorers:

Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th February – Dinodig!

This session is all about dinosaurs!  With the help of our Dinodig pit your little explorers can get the chance to be paleontologists for the day, digging for dinosaur remains and fossils!  In this month's story time we will hear all about Mr Higgins the paleontologist and his adventures finding dinosaur fossils!

Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th March – People who help us day!

Come along for a special day at the centre where, with the help from the British Red Cross we will be learning all about how to keep safe.  There will be specially designed activities which focus on how to spot danger and how to dial a 999 emergency call.  Don't forget our interactive story time too!

Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th May – Little Astronauts!

Come ZOOOM down to the centre and take a trip to outer space in our planetarium dome!  We will be visiting the planets and exploring the stars!  Your little astronauts can make their own rockets and hear a story about becoming an astronaut.

What our Early Explorers say about the experience:

"We were lucky enough to visit Dundee Science Centre with the nursery children and some parents. The nursery staff thought it was a fantastic afternoon and the parents and children really enjoyed the experience too. The week after our visits the children were still talking about the visit and they recreated the art activity and they made their own planetarium! It was a very valuable experience. Thank you."Nursery Teacher, Balcurvie Primary School, Fife.

"Really enjoyed Little Astronauts thanks and Ewan is looking forward to the next one already!"
