Upper Primary Programme

Circuit building (Second level (suitable for P6 upwards) SCN1-09a, SCN2-09a, SCN2-10a)
Pupils learn about circuits and electricity by soldering their own circuit to make a flashing face to take home with them!

Genes in a Bottle (First and Second levels, SCN2-14b, SCN3-14b, SCN1-20a, SCN2-20a)
Explore the ideas of DNA and genes and the role they play in shaping who we are in this DNA extraction workshop. Discover how to extract DNA from your own cheek cells before placing it in a necklace pendant to take home!

Robolab (First and Second levels (selection), TCH1-03b, TCH2-04a, TCH3-03a, MNU2-10b, MTH2-17b, LIT2-02a)
Use sophisticated Lego Mindstorms robot buggies and icon-led Robolab software to program the robots to move, and respond to light and touch sensors. This workshop provides an excellent way to discover control technology.

Solids, Liquids, Gases (First and Second levels, SCN2-15a, SCN3-15a)
An exciting show using liquid nitrogen at an amazing minus 196º Celsius to demonstrate states of matter through shattering and exploding experiments!
Please note: This workshop will be running 6th - 19th February 2012

Materials Matter (First and Second levels, SCN1-15a, SCN2-15a)
This show uses spectacular experiments to investigate loads of different materials. On the way find out how materials scientists use chemistry to help them understand and create new materials.

How to make the Perfect Poo! (First and Second levels, SCN1-12a, SCN2-12a)
Get hands-on with this digestive drama. Following the passage of food through the human digestive system this session manages to be sticky, fun, and educational!

The Solar System (First and Second levels, SCN1-06a, SCN2-06a, SCN3-06a)
Take a trip through the Solar System in our magic planet auditorium. See real photographic images of all of the planets and their features including the volcanic landscape of Venus and the moving gases of Jupiter.

Fingerprint Identification (First and Second levels, SCN1-14a,SCN 2-14b,SCN 2-20b)
Learn how police investigators use their sense of sight to identify fingerprint patterns. We all have them, and they are all different! Pupils will have a go at dusting for fingerprints, and take copies of their own fingerprints to take home.

Sound (First and Second levels, SCN1-11a, SCN2-11a, SCN1-12b)
Use your senses to explore sound in this active workshop. Let us conduct you on the journey of sound as we find out how sound is made, how it travels and how we detect it. Sounds like fun!

Terrible Trebuchets (First and Second levels, SCN0-07a, SCN1-07a, SCN2-07a, SOC1-02a, SOC2-03a)
Discover the forces in action in trebuchets – history’s best war machines! In groups, pupils will discuss and use model trebuchets, whilst noting the variables and effects involved. For teachers’ notes and risk assessments for these workshops, please see our downloads section.
Healthy Body Bits (Second level SCN1-12a, SCN2-12a)
An exploration of what is inside us, and how we are all the same. This workshop uses Stuffee, our giant rag doll, who is more than happy for pupils to operate on him and find out what organs he has!

Recycling (First and Second levels (selection), SCN2-04b, TCH2-01a, TCH1-02a, TCH2-02b, LIT1-02a, SOC1-08a)
A cross-curricular look at recycling. After an introduction to recycling, pupils work in groups to create a new product from 'recycled plastic' and present it back to the class.
