Senses exhibition
Our ground floor exhibition gives your group the opportunity to discover just how amazing their own bodies and senses are, through engaging, interactive exhibits.
The sight and perception zone explores the way our eyes work: you can even see your own blood cells travelling through your eye at the Blood Cells exhibit. Encourage your pupils to jump up and down for 20 seconds, and then observe how much quicker the blood flows.
Our giant optical illusions demonstrate the important relationship between the eyes and brain, as you proceed to the brain zone, where you can use the brain ‘scanner’ to see just what the brain looks like inside!
You will also be able to explore taste, touch, hearing, smell and temperature, from climbing inside the giant head (for younger pupils only) to observing your own heat signature at the thermal-imaging camera.
The thermal imaging camera detects and displays levels of infra-red radiation. Discuss the industrial applications of this kid of technology, and note how technology can be used to detect waves that our own organs cannot. The eye is an amazing organ, but cannot see anything outside the visible spectrum! Rub hands together, to see the warming effect of friction, or get some ice cubes from the café to draw ice-cold pictures on warm faces!
Throughout the day, we deliver science demonstrations at the ‘Science on the Spot’ theatre zone, and at our keyhole surgery exhibit.
At the rear of the ground floor, find ‘Sense’: a sensory zone designed to stimulate pre-school and special needs visitors (although it’s fun for all ages!). Interact with light beams to produce sounds effects, and see the light wall react to the sounds you make.
